So grab a nice hot mug of your favourite brew and join us as we take a look back on 2016…
We had a great launch into Early Access with The Black Death. Our servers couldn’t handle the amount of players at once trying to login, we did our best and worked through the night and early hours of the morning to fix the server issues and a couple of other major bugs including one where walking into a stone wall would crash the server. Thank you all for being there at launch with us, we gathered a lot of valuable feedback and you helped us to catch some nasty bugs as soon as we could too. Patches V0.01, V0.02 and V0.03 were quickly dished out to fix the major issues. This was great for us as we could see the community and how many of you wanted to play and get involved with the game, it meant a lot to us. Things calmed down when we finally launched our Public Test Server. We cannot thank our community enough for sending in all your bug reports on our Google form, by email and on our Steam forums, you have all been such a big help.
SIG Team Events
The SIG Team have been busy spreading the plague all the way to Cologne, Birmingham and Nottingham as we showcased The Black Death at this years Gamescom, EGX and the GameCity Festival. We had a lot of fun seeing your reactions and thoughts about the game and hope that we made a good impression. As much as we enjoy working on The Black Death in the office, events like these are a great opportunity for us to meet the fans, get hands on feedback and suggestions from both long time and new fans of Mercia and in general have a great time. We would like to give a big thank you to the teams at Gamescom, EGX, GamesCity Festival, SideFest, Brewdog Leicester and of course Green Man Gaming for being amazing Publishers and setting us up with their stand at these great events! They have been with us every step of the way so a big thank you to the whole team!

Fight Night Friday’s With [SIG] Miniishadow!
Fight night started out as “Fight Friday with the Devs” which we hosted in Bywick as our event location. The event went down great and we had a lot of fun challenging the community to duels and we managed to defend the entrance for a while until we were ambushed from behind! The first Fight Night was held on the 15th July, we had another on the 29th July and a third on the 12th August.
One of our Community Officer’s [SIG] Miniishadow revived Fight Friday into Fight Night at the Arena in Raven’s Reach. [SIG] Miniishadow even had commentary for each fight round and prizes for the winners of each round and the champion!
Over the last couple of weeks you have been sharing your #PlagueMoments with us over on our Twitter page and also on the Steam Forums too! We have a gallery of your best #PlagueMoments and also some picks from us over on our Steam Community Hub, enjoy! There are even a few throwback screenshots in the mix!
Stories Of Mercia
We introduced “Stories Of Mercia” into The Black Death as a way of giving the Community the chance to create some great stories and tales of their adventures! Details of how to enter your story along with the terms of entry can be found over on our Steam forums if you would like to submit an entry. The three books listed below were the ones chosen for each patch update. Explore Mercia to find these hidden gems!
Dejan Markovic – The Battle Of Strumble Pass
Added in Version V0.09 – Knight And Outlaws
“Who dares to stop my army!? Who is so bold enough to stand before me bearing arms!?”- shouted Marcovon.
“I, Captain of the Kingdom of Eredur Hagrub, seek justice for all the innocent people you have slaughtered!”
William Emmett – The Legend Of The Wolf At Hangman’s Hollow
Added in Version V0.10
“The next morning, I left Bywick for Hangman’s Hollow. It was mid-morning when I reached the Hollows. I had brought a sword, a dagger, a bone club, and enough food and water to last me four days. I made camp just on the out skirts. ”
Zsolt Fekete – The Heretic Part I
Written from the pen of Syrnevar Blackheart, Lord of the Blackmist Marsh.
“The head of his guard was Sir Manquen Highlander of Frostfall, a battle-hardened knight of the king’s army, greedy enough to offer his services to Sven, instead of protecting the king. Now familiar with the backstory of our characters I can unfold the birth of a legend.”
